Prang, Bono East Region — The Pru West District has taken a major step toward youth empowerment and local economic development with the rollout of the National Apprenticeship Program, marked by the distribution of start-up kits to the first batch of beneficiaries.
Speaking at a brief but significant ceremony held in Prang, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, underscored the importance of skills development as a catalyst for sustainable livelihoods. The presentation was made on behalf of the Member of Parliament for the Pru West Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Ntekuni Kofi, and was attended by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Sulemana Ali, as well as executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hon. Agyapong noted that the initiative reflects a deliberate effort by government and stakeholders to address unemployment challenges, particularly among the youth, by shifting focus from purely theoretical education to practical, hands-on training.
“This program is designed to equip our young people with real, marketable skills that will enable them to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of the district,” he stated.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various communities within the constituency, received tools and equipment relevant to their respective trades. These start-up kits are expected to serve as a foundation for them to begin or expand their vocational careers immediately after training.
According to district officials, the National Apprenticeship Program is part of a broader strategy to promote entrepreneurship, support small-scale industries, and reduce poverty at the local level. By investing in skills training and providing the necessary resources, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and employment.
Mr. Sulemana Ali, the District Coordinating Director, emphasized the need for beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity. He encouraged them to remain committed to their training and uphold high standards of workmanship.
