On Saturday, 14th March 2026, the Pru West District Assembly successfully conducted a comprehensive clean-up exercise at the Prang Health Centre. This initiative marked a significant milestone in the district’s commitment to environmental hygiene and public health. As part of the broader National Sanitation Day (NSD) program, the exercise served as a local implementation of the national “Clean Up Ghana” agenda and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals. Led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, the activity transformed the health facility through a robust display of communal labor and inter-institutional collaboration.
The selection of the Prang Health Centre as the primary site for this month’s activity was strategic. As a vital hub for community wellness, the facility had been identified as a priority area for improving sanitation and reducing health hazards. The activity, which commenced at 6:00 AM, involved the intensive cleaning of hospital wards, sweeping of the expansive compound, and the desilting of drains to ensure proper water flow and mitigate flood risks.
The success of the day was underpinned by a diverse and massive participant turnout. Over 100 members of the Pentecost Church joined forces with assembly staff, police personnel, teachers, and traditional authorities to execute the task. This collaborative effort resulted in the evacuation of approximately 6 tonnes of waste, including plastics, metals, and hospital-specific waste. All collected materials were safely transported to the final disposal site along the Prang-Abease Road. The use of essential logistics, including skip containers, wheelbarrows, and specialized tools, ensured that the four-hour operation was both efficient and thorough.
Moving forward, the Assembly aims to build upon this momentum through continuous public education and the involvement of opinion leaders. By utilizing information centers and the NCCE to foster community involvement, the District seeks to sustain a clean and healthy environment. Ultimately, the 14th March exercise at Prang Health Centre stands as a testament to what can be achieved when leadership and community members unite for the common good of public health.
