The Pru West District Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and relevant stakeholders, organized an HIV awareness campaign and the distribution of OraQuick HIV Self-Test Kits to educate residents on HIV prevention, early detection, and treatment. The programme aimed to increase public awareness, reduce stigma associated with HIV, and encourage individuals to know their HIV status through self-testing.
Health professionals educated participants on the modes of HIV transmission, preventive measures, the importance of regular testing, and the availability of treatment services for persons living with HIV. The HIV awareness and testing exercise was conducted for staff of the Pru West District Assembly, the Ghana Education Office Prang , the Ghana Police Service Prang , and Yapra Rural Bank Prang . During the exercise, OraQuick HIV Self-Test Kits were distributed to participants to enable confidential and convenient HIV testing. Participants were also educated on the correct use of the test kits and provided with counselling, including guidance on where to seek confirmatory testing and treatment services if required.
The programme recorded active participation from the various institutions and reinforced the importance of regular HIV testing, responsible health-seeking behaviour, and early access to care. Participants were encouraged to share the knowledge gained with their colleagues, families, and communities to help reduce stigma and promote a healthier Pru West District.
